| After Your Revision Rhinoplasty |
|
After your revision rhinoplasty, you will generally be surprised that there really is very little pain. Your face may feel puffy, particularly during the first day after your procedure and you may experience a dull headache. We will of course provide medication to control any discomfort that you may experience.
One more thing you may have heard from friends and family who have had surgery elsewhere is that the most uncomfortable part of the whole process is the packing. Here at PROFILES, utilizing our modern techniques, we have largely done away with all packing. In the rare cases when extensive airway work necessitates packing, we utilize minimal soft material which is removed the morning after surgery.
The splint and nasal dressings applied to the nose right after surgery will be removed five to seven days after surgery. And in order to further reduce any postoperative discomfort, absorbable sutures which do not require removal are used on the inside of the nose.
You will also be given specific instructions for gradually returning to your normal activities and time to discuss these with your surgeon prior to surgery. In general, you may need to avoid strenuous activities like jogging, bending, swimming, sexual activities or any other activities that increase your blood pressure for two to three weeks. You will also need to avoid rubbing or hitting your nose or getting the nose sunburned for eight weeks. Washing your face and hair and using cosmetics will need to be done
gently and with care. Contact lenses may be worn as soon as you feel comfortable doing so, while glasses are generally not worn until the nose is completely healed.
Because we care about your immediate comfort and long term results, we schedule all of your follow-up appointments when you schedule your surgery. And we are so committed to your long term results and happiness that we will do our best to follow your postoperative course even years after your surgery.
