What You Need To Know About Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is something that has been around for many years, there are different lasers to treat different areas. Before going through his procedure most patients want to know what they should expect, such as how much downtime there will be or any problems they should look for.

Something important to know before undergoing laser hair removal is whether you’re seeing a doctor that has a laser specifically designed for laser hair removal, as there are specific wavelengths for this treatment. Some lasers have hair removal as an added benefit but are not specifically designed for this purpose. In this case the lasers will be less effective and patients may have to go through multiple treatments to get the desired result.

An example would be a local med spa with an IPL laser, the IPL laser can be used for hair removal but it will not be the most effective. When you’re thinking of having a hair removal procedure it is important to understand and know the efficacy of the lasers that will be used in your procedure.

At Beverly Hills Profiles, the modality of our lasers ensure that they don’t simply burn all the hair on the area being treated, instead it will affect the root of the hair and the hair will fall out over the next few weeks. It is important to shave before procedures.

Different areas are more sensitive, for example removing beard hair on the neck area can be uncomfortable. Men are also often concerned with back hair, this area is less sensitive as is the bikini area in women. We’ve tried the techniques ourselves and performed them on countless patients and overall the laser hair removal process is not a particularly painful procedure.

On recovery, there is not much downtime. The treated area may appear slightly pink for a couple of hours after the procedure. The hair will begin to fall out and then when the new hair cycle starts you’ll notice the hairs that grow back will be lesser in number, density and thickness. This will continue with each successive treatment.

As a person of color or even caucasian who has had extensive exposure to the sun, it is important to understand that different lasers work for different skin types. It is crucial to see someone who is experienced with your skin type and will discuss the details of your procedure with you beforehand. It is easy to get burned if the lasers are used improperly but otherwise it is a routine and safe procedure.

Deciding which doctor to have a hair removal procedure with is key to getting the results you want. Dr. Jason Litner and Dr. Peyman Solieman, based in Los Angeles, California, are world renowned and both double board certified plastic surgeons. Both have experience working with all skin types and understand how important it is to treat each patient as an individual. Call our Los Angeles office to schedule a consultation.
