Beverly Hills Blepharoplasty At PROFILES

beverly hills blepharoplasty eyelid surgeryAll of us have had days when we went to work and a colleague asked if we haven’t been sleeping. Over time if you keep hearing this question, it may be because of drooping upper eyelids and puffy under-eye bags. These signs of aging may be making you appear older and more tired than you actually feel, and sagging upper eyelids can actually interfere with vision.

Believe it or not, the effects of age are often seen as early as in your mid thirties, making you appear older than you actually are. That tired, sad expression that may accompany your aging eyes likely does not reflect how you really feel. If this sounds familiar, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) may help.

More than one hundred thousand people undergo eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) each year in order to improve their appearance. Eyelid surgery, known technically as blepharoplasty, involves the removal of excess fat from the upper and lower eyelids, often along with excess skin and muscle, thus restoring a refreshed look and a firmer, more youthful eye area.

The following information is provided to give you a basic understanding of how eyelid surgery is done at PROFILES and how it can help you.

Planning For Eyelid Surgery Blepharoplasty

At PROFILES, we utilize modern, time proven techniques which are uniquely tailored to you based upon your individual anatomy your individual goals.

During your personal Profiles Consultation, we will evaluate your eyes, brow, eyelids, and skin in order to tailor your surgery to you. There are some decisions which will need to be made including whether all four eyelids will be treated or just the upper or lower ones, whether skin will need to be removed along with fat, and whether or not an additional procedure can help you to achieve your goal. Photographs will be taken so your doctors can further study your face and eyes and utilizing state of the art computer imaging systems we will show you what we can achieve for you based on your goals. In fact, for those of you who want to see the difference between a browlift and eyelid surgery, we can even show you that.

During the Profiles Consultation with Dr. Litner or Dr. Solieman, we will ask you to provide your medical history, and will focus on conditions you have that may affect your surgery including thyroid problems, dry eye, lack of sufficient tears, high blood pressure or other circulatory disorders, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, glaucoma, or a detached retina. You will be examined and asked questions regarding your vision, tear production, and use of lenses. Moreover, in order to take every precaution, prior to your surgery we will ask that you have a complete ophthalmologic evaluation to check for these issues.

For those of you who have impaired vision due to your drooping eyelids, we will do our utmost to work with you in order to have your health insurance help cover your eyelid surgery.

Preparing For Your Eyelid Surgery

Prior to your surgery at PROFILES, your doctors will describe all details of your eyelid surgery. You will also be given specific instructions on preparing for your surgery including guidelines for eating and drinking, vitamin and medication intake, smoking, and after care.

Please be sure that while preparing for your surgery, you arrange for someone to give you a ride home after your procedure as you will be able to go home the same day as your surgery.

Anesthesia

Here at PROFILES, we utilize only board certified anesthesiologists for all our surgeries. We have found that most of our patients comfortably tolerate upper eyelid surgery under local anesthesia, which numbs the eye area. Occasionally, we will also utilize oral or intravenous sedation along with the local anesthesia. While you will be awake during surgery, you will be insensitive to pain and relaxed.

On the other hand, for those of you interested in lower eyelid surgery we generally recommend general anesthesia.

The Eyelid Surgery At PROFILES

surgery eyelid lift beverly hillsAt PROFILES, we are meticulous in planning every step of your surgery and individually tailor your surgery in order to achieve your goals. We hide all of your incisions within your natural creases in order to maximally conceal them. Generally this means the incisions follow the natural lines of the eyelids located within the creases of the upper eyelids or just below the lashes of the lower eyelids. In some cases, the incisions can extend into the laugh lines at the corners of the eyes or into the crow’s feet.

If you only have a pocket of fat beneath the lower eyelids with no excess skin that needs to be removed, Dr. Litner or Dr. Solieman may perform a transconjunctival blepharoplasty. The incision for this procedure is made inside of the lower eyelid, resulting in no visible scarring. This procedure is most commonly performed on younger patients whose skin is thicker and more elastic. We will discuss which of these techniques will best accomplish your unique goals.

After Your Eyelid Surgery

Most of our patients describe feeling tight and somewhat uncomfortable the night of surgery but rarely is pain an issue. You will be provided with pain medications should you need them both during the first night and if ever necessary, for the days that follow.

We will call and check on you that first night after surgery, and as with all our patients we will see you in the office the day following surgery to go over the surgery and check on you. Your progress will be closely followed during the first week or two, and you will be given a list of activities and environments that should be avoided in the weeks after surgery. The stitches are removed within three to five days, or self-absorbing stitches will dissolve on their own.

Because we care about your immediate comfort and long term results, we schedule all of your follow-up appointments when you schedule your surgery. And we are so committed to your long term results and happiness that we will do our best to follow your postoperative course even years after your eyelid surgery.
